The city of Goma, located in eastern Congo, has faced a series of challenges in recent decades. Since the 1990s, the region has been affected by armed conflict and violence, resulting in thousands of deaths and mass displacement of civilian populations.
Furthermore, Goma is situated in an area of volcanic activity, with the Nyiragongo volcano posing a constant threat to the safety of the city and its inhabitants. In May 2021, an eruption of the volcano left dozens dead and thousands homeless, further exacerbating the already precarious humanitarian situation in the region.
The city of Goma also faces social and economic challenges. Poverty and lack of employment opportunities are common, and basic infrastructure such as clean water and sanitation is inadequate. The situation is compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has had a devastating impact on the global economy and public health.
In the face of these challenges, the international community has an important role to play in supporting Goma and the Congo as a whole. It is important that investments are made in infrastructure, basic services and employment opportunities to help improve the quality of life for Goma’s inhabitants and encourage economic development in the region.
Baluarte World is entering this scenario to change the history of hundreds of orphans and children in vulnerable situations, building a school that will support more than 300 children who are victims of war and natural disasters. If you want to take part, Click Here
